Wellington - Kakapo Ink tattoo and gallery

A part of the deal we made with the cousin when we planned to visit was that my wife and her would get tattoos together. They had the designs picked, the booking was made and everything was going as planned.

It was at breakfast this morning that I also wanted to get in on the tattoo plan and get one for myself. As I am practicing magician (I prefer to call myself a trickster as it feels more this century) so I have wanted to get something that was clever and significant to myself. I had a quick think and came up with a design to work with and then I was ready to jump on that band wagon and get a new tattoo.

Molly was the mastermind behind the day and took us for a small walk around the corner past the Weta workshop 'tripod'.

We were standing at 16 Cambridge Terrace and a sign sat out the front and declared we had to travel up a huge quantity of stairs to make it to our destination. After digging deep and tackling this obstacle we were greeted by poster of an escalator, I had a chuckle along with the girls and thought to myself, at least they have a sense of humour.

Kakapo Ink accepted our approach and greeted us with a first exciting look into its uniqueness. I had never before heard of or seen an art gallery crossed with tattoo parlour which sent my mind in overdrive.

The environment was calm, soothing and flickered with creativity. Fantastic art pieces from both the gallerie's and local artists hung around the room, while relevant books laid scattered on the tables. I was really feeling the mood and it was helping me visualise the tattoo creation i required.

We were greeted by a tattoo artist, she was very friendly, welcoming us with the offer of refreshments as we waited for our appointment. I began creating an image in my mind to put onto paper as we sat patiently.

Soon after a few more people who entered and introduced themselves politely and welcomed us to their gallery.

I had the time to chat with Sam and Sally and introduce myself and our story. We laughed, we shared ideas but ultimately we had a great experience together. They were pretty impressed that I was a Trickster by trade.

The creativity was flowing, the guns were inking and everything was on point. The energy from everyone and everything was present and working hand in hand, it was a fantastic feeling.

Our tattoo artist Andre was amazing and just laid down the ink easily, as if it was a walk in the park on a Sunday, stopping for the friendly chat occasionally to make sure the clients were ok.

Andre a very talented tattooist showing us his skills as we all desired different styles in each art piece. The lines were perfect, the positioning was spot on and the shading made everything come to life. His offered his professional advice to prevent any dislike to our art pieces in the future, it was well met. After our five hour stay, we had new art as well as a memory filled with stories, laughter, advice and a new found friendship.

We all left the gallery pleased with the work, staff and everything else that displayed itself to us on our visit. Soon after we clicked over to their page and drop a nice big like off for them and before you know it they liked our business page as well. It's funny how we get incredibly happy when someone likes our page.

So if you are ever in search for a tattoo parlour with a creative and unique twist please say hello to the team at Kakapo Ink Wellington where you won't leave disappointed.

If your wondering about the design I ended up with on my evolving canvas, here is a photo for you. He goes by the name Ace, which is quite fitting for the fact he is up my sleeve.
