Wellington - when the sun shines

I've been to Windy Wellington numerous times in the past three years and 9 out of 10 times its raining or overcast nearly the whole duration of our stay.

So if you are ever blessed to have a blue cloudless sky hanging above you make sure you take the opportunity to explore the areas around the capital and not wait for the next blue moon.

Not far from the city along the water front is the small township of Petone (Pee-to-new) with plenty of little boutique stores and cafes to start of. Stores that sell gemstones, birthday needs, op shops and even a shop that just sells cat related items can be found on Jackson St mixed among various cafes and pubs.

If your just looking you could explore the shops over an hour or two. One very interesting point of Petone is the spring water point on Buick street that allows residents and visitors to fill their own containers with fresh chemical free water from the river. Fresh water from Hutt River is gathered and put through an artesian aquifer and then available for everyone. It's always a great idea to swing by and fill up atleast one water bottle so you can enjoy free great tasting water along your journey.

So after you have explored Jackson St and you have refilled your water if needed  , a great idea is to head out along the bay towards Seaview. You will find yourself driving right beside the awesome blue waters of the bay while you have a massive hill in your opposite side that has little home hidden among the overgrown green.

If you travel far enough you will come into Days Bay and see a jetty on the water and a small batch of shops on the land. This is one of my favourite spots to chill out in the sun while you get it. With a cafe that serves coffees, beers, cakes and generous meals, you will get the chance to take in the water views while feeling the radiance of the sun. If your looking for a cool decoration such as a pottery bird or maybe Se home made jewellery there is a shop not more than five metres away.

Once your ready to battle the beach a small walk across the street will leave you standing on a great pebble stone beach that has the best view of Days Bay. I recommend taking of your shoes and find a nice piece of drift wood to lean up against and just unwind.

If your keen you can bring some fishing gear and even have a flick and try your luck with the locals off the jetty.

I personally haven't been in the water but I do say it's mighty cold but could be super refreshing on a great day.

So depending on time restraints you could go shopping mad in Petone and then relax on the beach or change it up to suit yourself.

I find the Bay super relaxing even though back home we are used to sand beaches not pebbles.

So if your lucky enough to be in the Wellington area and have a great day outside, come out and play at Petone and Days Bay. I promise you it's a great time out and you will love how relaxing it is for yourself, friends and family.
